100kgm3 PVC foam is a closed-cell structural foam used as a sandwich core where higher strength and stiffness are required. Laminated between fibreglass or carbon fibre skins, it provides increased stiffness and load-carrying capability while adding minimal weight.  Unlike timber, it absorbs very little water and it won’t rot.

Features:

  • 100kgm3 density offers 20% more compressive strength than 80kgm3 density foam
  • Closed‑cell structure for negligible water absorption
  • Can be thermo-formed into curve shapes (heat, bend, clamp and allow to set)
  • Works with epoxy, polyester, and vinyl ester resins
  • Range of thicknesses, with 20mm being the go to for decks and floors

Technical Snapshot:

  • Colour: Red
  • Density: 100kgm3 (90-115 range)
  • Compressive Strength: 2.05 MPa
  • Shear Strength: 1.48 MPa
  • Shear Elongation at Break: 25%
  • Tensile Strength: 3.18 MPa
  • HDT: 125 °C

Quick Tips:

  • PVC foam is designed to be laminated on both sides.  Double bias cloth is commonly used on either side of the foam to create a strong sandwich laminate.
  • Foam can be shaped, cut and worked using standard wood-working tools.  Makes sure it is clean and dust‑free before bonding.
  • Although it forms a strong sandwich laminate, PVC foam should not be used where bolts or fittings are loaded directly into the core.

A few words on safety:

  • Use the right PPE for handling fibreglass products such as gloves, eye protection and dust mask.
