PVC Foam is a closed‑cell, cross‑linked structural foam that is used as a sandwich core.  When laminated on both sides it produces a lightweight panel with excellent stiffness, toughness and impact resistance. Unlike timber, it won’t rot and absorbs very little water.

Features:

  • 80kg/m³ density offers a good balance of weight and strength for general-purpose composite constructions
  • Works with epoxy, polyester, and vinyl ester resins
  • Can be thermoformed – warm the sheet until it softens, bend it into shape, and once it cools it will hold that shape permanently
  • Range of thicknesses, with 20mm being the go to for decks and floors

Quick Tips:

  • PVC foam is designed to be laminated on both sides.  Double bias cloth is commonly used on either side of the foam to create a strong sandwich laminate.
  • Foam can be shaped, cut and worked using standard wood-working tools.  Makes sure it is clean and dust‑free before bonding.
  • Although it forms a strong sandwich laminate, PVC foam should not be used where bolts or fittings are loaded directly into the core.

  • Nothing explicit.  Just avoid breathing dust when cutting or shaping. Gloves and dust masks are recommended.
