Chopped strand mat builds thickness and bonds layers together.  600gsm is suited to fast build-up on larger areas where speed is more important than shaping detail.

Features:

  • Emulsion bound – formulated for polyester and vinyl ester
    • Not suitable for use with epoxy resin
  • 600gsm CSM builds thickness quickly, reducing the number of layers required
  • Best suited to larger, flatter surfaces rather than tight curves
  • Cost-effective option for bulk laminating

Quick Tips:

  • Dry cut CSM before mixing up your resin to avoid sticky gloves, wasted time and a messy lay-up.
  • Wet out one layer at a time and apply next layer while wet.  For thicker laminates, build in stages (typically 2-4 layers at a time) to avoid excess heat when the resin cures.
  • Heavier mat takes more time to wet out properly – take your time to avoid dry spots
  • Choose the right weight of CSM for each part of your build
    • 225gsm – gives controlled layering
    • 300gsm – conforms well to curves and details
    • 450gsm – balances build up speed and conformability
    • 600gsm – builds thickness quickly but is stiffer

  • Glass fibres will irritate your skin and lungs.  Wear gloves, long sleeves and mask when handling and sanding
