450gsm chopped strand mat is the most common fibreglass reinforcement for repairs, boatbuilding and general laminating. It offers a good balance between conformability, strength and laminate build-up.

• 450gsm weight provides good laminate build-up and strength

Quick Tips:

• Approximate wet out rate is: 900g of resin per square metre of 450gsm Chopped Strand Mat
• Dry cut CSM before mixing up your resin to avoid sticky gloves, wasted time and a messy lay-up.
• Wet out one layer at a time and apply next layer while wet.  For thicker laminates, build in stages (typically 2-4 layers at a time) to avoid excess heat when the resin cures.
• Choose the right weight of CSM for each part of your build
  • 225gsm – gives controlled layering
  • 300gsm – conforms well to curves and details
  • 450gsm – balances build up speed and conformability
  • 600gsm – builds thickness quickly but is stiffer
