Chopped strand mat builds thickness and bonds layers together. Combine with reinforcement layers to build strength in your laminate.

Features:

Powder bound – compatible with epoxy, polyester and vinyl ester
450gsm CSM is a good general purpose mat adding 0.4-0.5mm (approx) per layer
Shapes well around curves and irregular areas once wet out
Commonly used in building plugs for moulds due to its balance of speed to build up and ability to be shaped

Quick Tips:

Dry cut CSM before mixing up your resin to avoid sticky gloves, wasted time and a messy lay up.
Wet out one layer at a time and apply next layer while wet. For thicker laminates, build in stages (typically 2-4 layers at a time) to avoid excess heat when the resin cures.
Choose the right weight of CSM for each part of your build;
- 100gsm – acts like a surface tissue
- 225gsm – gives controlled layering
- 300gsm – conforms well to curves and details
- 450gsm – balances build up speed and conformability
- 600gsm – builds thickness quickly but is stiffer
