10mm Core Material

Pack Type: Per Metre – rolled onto a cardboard core

Our 10 mm Core Material is a lightweight structural core used to build thickness and stiffness in composite laminates.

Features:

  • Adds thickness and stiffness without excessive weight
  • Can be used in place of timber (no rot)
  • Can be drilled into and accepts fixings once laminated
  • Soft and conformable when wet out, allowing it to shape and overlap easily
  • Excellent bonding to glass skins due to open structure

Technical Snapshot:

  • Core type: Non‑woven structural core mat
  • Thickness: 10 mm
  • Width: 1270 mm
  • Weight: 330 gsm
  • Material: Glass veil, volumised thermoplastic microspheres
  • Resin compatibility: Polyester & Vinyl Ester
  • Application: Hand lay‑up
  • Brand: Spherecore

Quick Tips:

  • Calculate resin required – ratio is ~4.5kg per square metre
  • Laminate glass layer
  • Pre-wet the zig-zag side of the core material using around 50% of required amount of resin
  • Place wet (zig-zag) side down on first glass layer
  • Wet out core material with rest of resin (lamb wool roller works well here)
  • Shape wet core material
  • Add top glass layers

A few words on safety:

  • Use a mask when cutting to protect your lungs from the fine particle dust.

Things our customers have used this product for:

  • Curved laminates
  • Transom repairs (up to 70mm thick)
  • Areas where core foam is difficult to shape
